Superhero Film is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Different from MCU films

Since Avengers: Endgame (2019), many film lovers have admitted that they are bored with superhero films, or in other words, superhero fatigue. One of the factors could be because the story plot is the same, predictable so it's boring.

The newest MCU superhero film is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 which was released in Indonesia since Wednesday (3/5/2023), earlier than its own country of origin. Although it is not yet possible to see whether the last franchise of the Guardians of the Galaxy is successful or not in terms of income, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 gets pretty good reviews from those who have watched it.

After watching this film at the gala premiere which was held at Gandaria City, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (2/5/2023), it feels like this film is indeed different from other MCU films after Endgame. Why?

MCU movie after Endgame

After Endgame, the MCU announced that they would continue the story of the superheroes in phases 5 and 6. Not just new titles, films released post-Endgame still cover several solo stories of Avengers members in the previous phases.

The films released after Endgame are Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019), Black Widow (2021), Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), Eternals (2021), Spider-Man: No Way Home ( 2021), Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), and most recently Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023).

The Main Villain is not the Biggest Problem for the Guardians

What Makes Guardians of Galaxy 3 Different from MCU films after Endgame High Evolutionary in Marvel comics and Chukwudi Iwuji in the film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. So why is this film considered different from other MCU films after Endgame? One of them is because this film doesn't consider their main villain, namely High Evolutionary, as a big problem. Since the beginning, the Guardians members have never hesitated, hesitated, or confused about taking any steps to save Rocket (Bradley Cooper).

After successfully defeating Thanos who has the nickname as the greatest villain, it really makes sense that the Avengers are no longer afraid of any enemy. James Gunn, the director, seems to have caught on to that so he doesn't build the High Evolutionary character as the central figure.

Instead of talking about how bad the villain is, GotG Vol. 3 is more centered on the story of each member, moreover this is the closing film for them to say goodbye to their fans.

Not Dramatizing the Final Fight Scene

What Makes Guardians of Galaxy 3 Different from MCU films after Endgame Nebula, Peter Quill, and Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The story pattern of superhero films usually has to go through so many troops before finally being able to duel against the main villain. GotG Vol. 3 is not absent from this pattern, really. The difference is, they don't make the final duel between the superhero and the villain the climax.

Because from the start it was considered not a big problem, especially with the strength and teamwork of all the members of the Guardians, the fight against the High Evolutionary only took a little time. There isn't, really, the superhero scene loses first, then gets up and finally wins.

The main scene is not about how to defeat the villain, but how to save friends, family and others. The plot isn't about dying against the main villain, but rather trying to understand yourself so you can move on without regrets.

Like an antidote to superhero fatigue, this aspect makes GotG Vol. 3 feels different from MCU films after Endgame which are usually filled with anger, revenge, and fierce battles. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is warmer. Their heroic actions are also not described in a grande manner, but are still very emotional.
